What does a wheel spacer do?

ATV wheel spacers are designed to change the spacing of the wheel. To make an ATV wider, many people choose to install wheel spacers or aftermarket parts such as A-Arms. Some might flip the wheels around, or upgrade their axles with wider A-Arms, but spacers are the easiest and cheapest way.

It’s pretty quick and easy to install the spacers. You simply take your wheel off, mount the wheel spacers on the hub where the wheel was, and then mount the wheel back on. Also, most wheel spacer kits come with instructions so that you can be sure to do it right. Overall, it’s a fairly straightforward process.

Why someone installs wheel spacers boils down to personal preference. Some riders may simply choose to install spacers in order to improve the overall look of their ATV to make it look more aggressive. Some might want more clearance for oversized tires to avoid having them rub against the body, exhaust, and other parts. Others might want to be more stable on rougher and unpredictable terrains. When you have extreme slopes, which is often the case for thrill seekers, there is the possibility that if you don’t have enough speed going uphill, or if you hit an obstacle at full speed, that your ATV will flip on its side. Having that extra width can keep that from happening.
